Gray Death

Gray Death

An extremely lethal drug named Gray Death; which is comprised of heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, and synthetic opioids can kill users with just one dose. Deneen Kilcrease, manager of the chemistry section at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation told the associated press that, “Gray death is one of the scariest combinations that I have ever seen in nearly 20 years of forensic chemistry drug analysis.”

Fentanyl, a synthetic opiate painkiller, is being combined with heroin to increase its potency, but dealers and buyers may not specifically know what they are selling or ingesting. Many users underestimate the strength of fentanyl. The dosage of fentanyl is a microgram, which is about the same amount as a 2 GRAINS OF TABLE SALT. The lethal dose for fentanyl is generally stated to be about 2 milligrams.

A SINGLE FLAKE of pure carfentanil can tranquilize a 2,000-pound elephant, and is 100 times more potent than fentanyl, and 10,000 times more potent than morphine. This substance can float through the air or apparently be absorbed by touch.

People who purchase heroin off the streets have no way of telling if the heroin is pure or laced with other drugs before using it. When forensic scientists are asked what they were testing they used to be able to tell you fentanyl or heroin. Now, sometimes they say we just don’t know.

The drug epidemic in America is troubling, but the thought of these combined substances is downright terrifying. “This is not a drug that you use to get high—if you put this drug into your body you will die, it will kill you,” Clay Hammac, Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task commander, told ABC 33 40.
