One Frightening Drug

the drug flakka

Hallucinations caused by mind-altering drugs are real and dangerous, and it is also a real effect of an awful drug called Flakka. However, hallucinations are merely one result of taking this drug. Flakka, otherwise known as gravel, is a drug made of a compound called alpha-PVP. Alpha-PVP is an amphetamine-like drug, which is also a chemical cousin ingredient found in bath salts.

Flakka has produced extremely terrifying stories if you google Flakka you will see headlines that will startle or even shock you.

Here are two frightening examples.

  • Last April, a Melbourne man was arrested after attacking a police officer and attempting to have sex with a tree. Yes; you read that correctly. The officer used a taser in an attempt to subdue Kenneth Crowder, 41, but he continued to punch the officer and even tried to stab the cop with his own badge. Eventually, the cop punched Crowder and brought him to the ground. Crowder later declared that he was the mythical god Thor.
  • In March 2015, Shanard Neely of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, told police that he’d smoked flakka, then made a mad dash for the fence surrounding the police department. Surveillance video captured Neely’s attempt to scale the ten-foot spiked fence that ended with him falling on one of the spikes, impaling himself. The spike went straight through his thigh up near his groin and came out the other side of his buttocks. Neely was stuck dangling there for 20 minutes while a fire rescue team cut away the fence and transported him to Broward Health Medical Center to have the spike surgically removed and stop the bleeding. He survived the procedure (miraculously enough) but was held for psychological evaluations.
