Why I Work at Narconon

I grew up the son of a drug user. My dad was a lifetime alcoholic and user of marijuana; I have no idea if he used other more sinister drugs. These two, however, were his drugs of choice and plagued him through the whole course of his life, making an unenjoyable, strenuous and consistently up and down course of existence.

My dad was in and out of prison his whole life for violence and DUI’s and eventually second-degree murder. He never thought well of himself and when we did have meaningful conversations he always admitted in some way or another that he basically hated himself.

He was a fun guy to be around when he wasn’t “under the influence,” I cherish these moments. My read dad underneath the drugs, alcohol and the addiction was a good guy. Unfortunately, my dad wasn’t able to get real help, and those moments were rare as the real reasons behind his addiction were never addressed despite numerous trips to “traditional” rehabs where substitute drugs were used, hypnotism was used and other actions that rarely produce a cured and rehabilitated individual.

That’s the thing that many people erringly think when they think of “rehab”… they believe we, here at Narconon, are one of these rehab centers where the symptoms of drug use are addressed only and the cause of the “disease” are rarely addressed fully. Most “rehabs” have a success rate of 5-8% at best. Here at Narconon, the majority of our students do not revert to drugs and do not become repeat customers.

If Narconon had been there for my dad perhaps I would still have a dad around—one who was truly rehabilitated; one who loved himself; one who was a success in life. But that wasn’t my dad’s fate. He was in and out of prison and other rehabilitative revolving doors and he died early in life a miserable wreck of a man, in a crappy trailer with none of his issues and concerns addressed in life. This man lived his whole life as a biochemical personality, miserable and truly alone, even when surrounded by friends.

I decided at the half-point in my life that I needed to do something for this world and for all the younger versions of myself who had a dad, mom or another family member in the grasp of addiction’s evil hands.

It’s the drugs and alcohol that take away our loved ones. The true person is still there underneath that mess. It is truly an honor to work with individuals each and every day, who have been caught in the grip of addiction, and to see hope, honesty and life restored to them step-by-step through the course of the Narconon program.

If you have a loved one who has children and you’re contemplating whether to send them to Narconon Arrowhead, just do so. I’ll be here. I’ll be working for those kids’ dads and moms, and the kids of those moms and dads. That’s why I do what I do and every day, because Narconon is an applied, scientific method which gets results for addicts… I KNOW I can help give them their best shot to total freedom over drugs.
