manThose who start down the road to addiction accumulate unto themselves so much mental and physical damage that their lives and its quality deteriorates. And if the person continues with their abuse of drugs or alcohol unchecked, he or she will eventually be faced with so many unpleasant situations and circumstances that each sober moment will be filled with despair and misery. All that remains for the person is to try and escape these painful feelings, and attempt to medicate them away. And for a majority of the addicts who are caught in this downward spiral of addiction, there will only be three possible outcomes: sobriety, prison or death.

There is Hope

While the harsh realities of addiction and the ruin and damage it does to a person and their life can at times seem impossible to overcome, there is still hope. And with persistence and courage and dedication to the goal of reclaiming one’s life from addiction—it can be done. This is one man’s personal story of doing so.

We will know him as Hayes, and he did the Narconon drug rehabilitation program at the Oklahoma-based long-term residential rehabilitation center, Narconon Arrowhead. There he experienced the benefits of the drug-free Narconon program, which for decades has helped people achieve long-term sobriety, and go on to live happy and productive lives. This is his personal story.

Hayes shares that before he arrived at Narconon Arrowhead, his life—“if that’s what you want to call it”—was not much of a life.

He shares that his life was nothing but drug and alcohol abuse for a twenty-year period. For the last two years of it, he says he never drew a sober breath.

It was living Hell, he says, not only for himself, but for anyone he came in contact with, including his family and loved ones who had pretty much given-up on him.

Hayes shares that he had given-up on himself; that he came to the point where he just did not know where to go; or what to do.

Ending the Downward Spiral of Addiction

When Hayes first got to Narconon Arrowhead, he didn’t really know what to expect.

He found the staff of the center to be kind and caring; and after talking with some of them and hearing their stories, he realized they knew how he was feeling, and what he had been through; “because they had been there, too.”

He shares that the Narconon Arrowhead staff made him feel comfortable, and he “felt like I’d been here before, almost.”

The staff helped him through drug-free withdrawal—a difficult time for him —but he says they made it so much better than it could have been had he been on his own.   Hayes shares that he really wants to thank the staff at Narconon Arrowhead for that—“they do a wonderful job.”

He says that when he first walked in the door at Narconon, he wasn’t sure what to expect. He had been to other rehabs before, and they had been “a hospital-type set-up.” Hayes says to then “walk into this beautiful, resort-type atmosphere” just blew him away.

Hayes wants the reader to know that now, after having completed the Narconon program at Narconon Arrowhead, “I have myself back.”

He says, “I have my dignity and respect and work-ethics” and “I feel like I did before I started using drugs”; something he thought he would never have again. “I thought it was gone for good, and Narconon gave me that back.”
