When an individual turns to drug use for the very first time, it is safe to assume that they have no idea what lies in store for them in the future.  If they did, it is likely that they would not only refuse to use drug substances, but they’d run fast in the opposite direction.  Unfortunately, few individuals actually understand how initial, casual and innocent drug use can lead into an overpowering addiction that consumes their every waking moment and slowly and systematically destroys their life.

Once an individual has moved from casual drug use into full-blown drug addiction, they are usually aware of the fact that they have a problem and that they need help.  The difficulty is in getting that help, because most of the time it can appear to the individual that it is impossible to ever fully recover from drug addiction or move forward into a healthy, happy future.

Sandra’s Descent into Drug Addiction

Sandra’s drug abuse and addiction problems began when she was only nineteen years old.  She was drinking alcohol and using crack cocaine, and she continued to for the subsequent twenty-seven years.  To put it quite plainly, her addiction problems ruined her life and thoroughly destroyed her.  She nearly lost all contact with her family as they struggled to help her overcome her problems.  She couldn’t keep a job for any length of time – she was rarely on time and just couldn’t tolerate having to work.  If she lasted until the first paycheck she would then immediately leave in order to spend it on drugs and alcohol.  Sandra had no real relationships to speak of because of her drug use – she was drinking daily and therefore inebriated all the time.  There was no arguing that drugs literally destroyed everything around her.

Finding Herself Through Narconon

At Narconon Sandra was able to rid her body of all drug toxins, effectively eliminating cravings and clearing her mind for the first time in nearly three decades.  As she moved on to the life skills courses, there was one particular portion of the program that was the most effective in helping her to fully recover from drug use: the part that helped her disconnect from the past.

During her years of drug use, Sandra was constantly living in the past.  She was worrying over past problems and the decisions she had made, and she wasn’t even truly aware of the environments or life around her.  It was like she was half-asleep all the time.  During her Narconon program, Sandra was finally able to come out of her past, and it was like she was being woken up.  She immediately began to see things around her differently, and for the first time in a very long time the things she saw around her actually seemed real.  This was the part of her program she most enjoyed, because it truly changed her.

Now that she has completed the Narconon program, Sandra is truly grateful for everything that she has gained there.  Not only is she now able to live in the present and really see what is happening around her, she has her family back full force.  More importantly she has herself back and she is able now to reach for and attain the goals she has always desired for herself.  Sandra admits that prior to coming to Narconon she truly believed that she would always have to be drinking or taking drugs in order to function in her life, and now she knows she doesn’t have to use drugs at all anymore.  She is glad to be aware of life, and to know with absolute certainty that she is free from drugs forever.
