manThe path each person walks to addiction is a personal one. So is the journey a person takes on their path to sobriety and the restoration of living life drug-free. There have been people from all walks of life and from countries around the world who have found their way to Narconon Arrowhead in Oklahoma, seeking the chance to break-free from the chains of addiction—and to succeed. This is the story of Brian, one young man who found Narconon Arrowhead, and walked his journey out of addiction.

Before Coming to Narconon Arrowhead

Brian says that before he got into the Narconon program, his life was filled with despair, depression, anger, and rage. His family, his wife, the respect and adoration he used to have in their eyes–was lost. The trust factor was totally gone.

“My life was a complete shambles. I was dying”, he says.

Arriving at Narconon Arrowhead

When he first got to Narconon Arrowhead, Brian says he felt relieved. He had met some individuals, and they were very passionate about what they did. They cared. They cared about getting him better. “And when I didn’t care about myself—they cared about me.” And that fact made a great impression upon him. And it helped ease him into the program, he says.

“I felt a lot of love. And they were there every step of the way with me. And I really appreciated that.”

Doing the Narconon Program

According to Brian, the portion of the Narconon Program that helped him the most was the Drug-Free Withdrawal portion. He says that after about 3 or 4 days of being there, he “submitted myself and accepted myself, and the love that was around me in order to better me.

He shares that is where he got a lot of his strength to carry him over into the rest of the program.

He says that once he quit fighting himself, “and decided to live for a better me–and a better me for my family” is when he saw the major change in himself. He reiterates that is what carried him over to the rest of the program; and he used that strength from then for all the rest of the program. “It really sustained me. That’s where I saw the change. And it just got better from then on.”

Graduating the Narconon Program

When Brian completed the program at Narconon Arrowhead, he said he felt awesome, and on top of the world. “There’s nothing I can’t accomplish right now. This such an inspiring walk that I’ve had. It’s going to carry over into my years of sobriety.”

Brian adds that there has been “so much change in me; change for the better.”

“I love myself now. I can look at myself now with respect. I can look at the reflection in the mirror and smile. I can pat myself on the back. I can give now. I used to take, take, take.”

He reiterates he can give now; and that makes him feel good. It makes him feel good to help out those who are struggling. “And now I get to help give back.”

“There used to be all these layers, you know—drugs, alcohol, you know; all this other junk,” he says. “And now that’s stripped away, and now the true me is here. Thanks to this program—it’s there.”
