In April of 2013, International Narconon Directors joined parents and graduates to celebrate 40 years of positive outcome studies of the Narconon Program. Executives and staff from the worldwide Narconon network came together in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to celebrate Narconon’s forty-seventh year of saving lives. The location was nearest to our center in Canadian, Oklahoma; Narconon Arrowhead.
Arriving in Oklahoma from all points across the globe were attendees from the United States, and as far away as Australia and South Africa, Italy, Russia, Spain and Latin America. Special translators were provided for non-English speaking participants, so that everyone, no matter their native language, could enjoy the shared accomplishments, awards and presentations.
Narconon Conference Memorable Highlights
Amongst the many highlights of the conference was a presentation on the international plans for more centers to open soon, worldwide. Yearly awards to Narconon centers for growth and for producing the most drug-free graduates were presented. Narconon Melbourne was the proud recipient of the award for the Narconon center with the greatest expansion, and Narconon Cape Town, South Africa was the proud recipient of the award for the fastest growing Drug Education Program. Congratulations were in order for a job well done.
Another memorable highlight was the volunteer group, Parents of Narconon. Representing the group were three parents asking to speak to the conference attendees, and thanking Narconon for saving the lives of their sons. The plaque they presented, states simply and sincerely, Our heartfelt thanks to Narconon staff, and was warmly received and acknowledge by a full round of applause from the audience.
A particularly poignant highlight, especially for all who have known her for many years, was a special award from Narconon International to Jeannie Trahant, presented by President Narconon International, Clark Carr. This award was in special recognition of her 40 years of unceasing service to the Narconon Network. Jeannie started from Narconon Los Angeles in1973, she herself a graduate of the Narconon Program, and has been working to help save lives ever since.
The culmination which highlighted the conference was the presentation to the Narconon Directors and Narconon Executives of the new release of the first complete compilation of the nearly forty years of the Narconon Program Outcome Studies and evaluations. This compilation includes three comprehensive charts, listed below, which document decades of study results.
- Do Narconon Graduates Stay Off Drugs?
Consistent Results Across the Decades
- Do Narconon Graduates Stay Out of Trouble?
Demonstrating that the Cycle of Drugs and Criminality Can Be Broken
- Do Narconon Graduates Function Well in Society?
For Decades, Graduates Have Returned to Work and School
Another defining highlight included the document entitled, The Narconon Program 40 Years of Evidence of Recovery, which presents twenty-three evaluations of varying lengths and formalities, ranging from the early days when the program was offered inside prison walls to later results from rehab centers in West Berlin, Stockholm, Moscow, and the United States. Some highlights from this report included a 2001 study from the Second Chance Program, licensed by Narconon, inside Ensenada State Prison, in Baja California, Mexico. Another highlight, a 2005 study of 100 high-rate criminally offending juveniles done in collaboration with the Utah 4th District Juvenile Court. Yet another highlight, a 2009 follow-up survey of 275 graduates of Narconon Arrowhead in Oklahoma, and including some California centers, which found 77.5% to be drug-free, one year later.
These large and small studies serve to validate the workability of the Narconon Drug Rehabilitation methodology developed by L. Ron Hubbard.
They are also an acknowledgement of the dedication and professionalism of Narconon staff members worldwide, all of whom deserve recognition for their commitment, hard work, and their desire and willingness to help create a drug-free world for everyone. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
