manThe downward spiral of addiction experienced by those who start down its path is an increasing accumulation of damage to their physical and mental selves, and to the quality of their lives. The continued abuse of drugs or alcohol will eventually leave the person facing so many unpleasant situations and circumstances that their every sober moment if filled with misery and despair. The person seeks escape from these painful emotions by medicating them away. It is a life which has spiraled out of control, and become unmanageable. This is one such story.

A Life out of Control

This is Amanda’s personal story, of coming to Narconon Arrowhead in southeastern Oklahoma, seeking to reclaim her life from addiction. In its sharing, it is hoped that others will find their way, too.

Amanda says that before she got to Narconon Arrowhead, her life was in ruins. She had pretty much lost everything. Her house was being taken away. Her relationship with her families had deteriorated, and she hadn’t talked to them in more than five years.

If she wasn’t on pills, she says, then she was going through withdrawals—and kicking. She says it was just awful–staying in bed for weeks on end; throwing-up a lot; and in and out of emergency rooms.

“It just got unmanageable”, she says.

Regaining Control

Amanda says that when she first got to Narconon Arrowhead, “they took me into Withdraw, and the staff was really caring.” She says the staff get you up and moving at your own pace, and “make you feel really good about what you’re doing.”

Usually, she says, she would stay in bed for around a week, but the Drug-Free Withdrawal staff at Narconon Arrowhead got her up and moving, and after about three days,” I noticed I was laughing.” She says laughing wasn’t anything she was prepared to do, and “It caught me off guard.”

Amanda was out of Withdraw in five days, and felt really incredible, she says. She already felt a huge improvement from when she had walked in to Narconon Arrowhead.

She shares that when she started seeing change was during one of the life skills courses done right after the Narconon sauna part of the program. She says the course “made me realize parts of my past that bothered me”, and it helped her “get it out of my system.”

On another life skills course shortly after that one, she says she “got to write down all of the wrongs I had done to myself, and to my family, and everyone around me.” It made her realize, really, how much she affected everybody else. “It wasn’t just the pills affecting me, and taking me down. I was taking my whole family down; and my job and everybody who loved me.”

A Manageable Life

Amanda wants the reader to know now that she has completed the Narconon program, she feels really confident that she can use the tools that were given to her to have a successful life, and not go back and use again.

“And that’s the first time I’ve felt that way in, probably, over ten years”, she says.

Amanda shares that she “really felt that I was just a slave to the drugs”, and that she was never going to get out of it.   But as she made her way through the Narconon program, she did get out.

“I feel so confident, and I feel so excited to get back out there, and regain the trust of my family and just succeed without drugs, on my own.”
