During the holiday season there is a great call for donations to worthy causes and organizations. It can be difficult to go shopping at the grocery store without being approached about making a donation to those in need, and while it may seem that all these requests run together, it is important to stop for a moment and consider who may be aided by your donation. For example, children who are being raised in poor or dangerous living situations can be aided by donations made to various emergency shelters that seek to guide the children and their families into better ways of living.
Individual donations are always very helpful, but organizations that use their time, resources and marketing tools to fund large drives for toys, food, clothing, funds and other necessities can often make a marked difference to an organization that aids needy children. Narconon Arrowhead is one such organization.
About Narconon Arrowhead
Narconon Arrowhead is a unique, holistic drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility located in southern Oklahoma. In contrast to many thirty day rehabilitation programs, the Narconon program can often take between three to six months to complete. It includes a drug detoxification program, counseling, life skills courses and post-graduation care to fully rehabilitate the individual for a healthy, productive future. As important as this primary service is, rehabilitating drug-addicted individuals is only one of the ways that Narconon Arrowhead helps the community.
Narconon Arrowhead participates in a variety of programs and projects year-round to aid others in the community, including providing drug education and support for other community service organizations and activities. During the holiday season when many organizations are arranging donations for those in need, Narconon Arrowhead hosts an annual food pantry drive to assist other local community organizations. This year, the Emergency Youth Shelter in McAlester and the Emergency Youth Shelter in Eufuala were two of the many organizations that benefited from Narconon Arrowhead’s seventh annual food drive donations.
The Narconon Arrowhead donation to the Emergency Youth Shelter was presented in check form so that the center could use the funds as needed to aid the children that they service. Kristy Cusher, the program coordinator at the shelter, indicated that one of the children currently in their care was a seven year-old who desperately needed a walker. This and many other needs are able to be met now, thanks to the generous donation from Narconon Arrowhead.
About the Emergency Youth Shelter
Children who are raised in a home that is made unstable because of drugs, violence, financial problems, physical or emotional abuse or other difficulties are often precariously placed upon a dangerous path in life. Not only is their health and life in danger in such an environment, but the child himself may follow the examples set around him and make choices that are not healthy or productive and can lead to juvenile crime and prison.
The Emergency Youth Shelter aims to prevent children from entering the juvenile justice system and provide a safe, stable environment for children whose lives have been threatened or endangered in some way. The two shelters in McAlester and Eufaula are currently housing twelve children between the ages of seven and seventeen.
During any time of the year, but especially during the holiday season, it is very important that vital community service organizations like the Emergency Youth Shelter are well supported. These children come from difficult domestic situations and need to experience the true joy and love that the holiday season can offer. Narconon Arrowhead is proud to be part of the effort to aid these organizations and the children they service.
