Narconon Arrowhead is a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility located in southern Oklahoma. One of a hundred Narconon facilities worldwide, Narconon Arrowhead is the largest Narconon facility and can house up to two hundred program students at a time. Situated on the hills overlooking Lake Eufaula, this unique rehabilitation facility provides an ideal environment for individuals to recover in. Currently, Narconon Arrowhead is preparing for the holiday season with a variety of events and activities.
Activities at Narconon Arrowhead
While the different points of the Narconon rehabilitation program are very important in and of themselves, it is also incredibly important for the facility staff and program students to participate in recreational and community activities. There are many reasons for this. First of all, a drug addict usually suffers from dulled physical and emotional senses. The chemical toxins in drugs are designed to block receptors in the brain and in so doing can interrupt the communication between the brain, nervous system and body. While the drug user’s intention is to block unwanted sensations, the chemicals are non-specific and end up blocking all sensations, including sound, touch, smell, and emotions like happiness and joy. Participating in recreational and community activities during rehabilitation treatment can help the individual restore and experience these valuable sensations.
Second of all, a drug addict usually experiences shame, guilt and embarrassment as a result of their drug use. This can cause them to withdraw from their relationships with others around them, and become focused inwardly on self, mainly on their past and current problems and their drug use. By participating in group activities with others, the individual looks out to their environment and creates healthy communications and relationships with others.
Third of all, drug addicts have usually not been productive members of society, and have actually been harming society by their drug use, lack of contribution and drain of society resources like healthcare and emergency and police services. It is not then a stretch to say that drug addicts have been out of exchange with the world around them. By participating in community service activities, these former addicts are supporting ethical activities and being productive in society, and giving back to society for all the help they have received in fighting their addiction.
Fourth of all, and quite important in its own right, former drug addicts who participate in community service activities set a very good example for other residents in the area. Not only are they good examples of individuals who are ridding themselves of the harmful effects of drugs, but they are also good examples of the importance of participating in community service activities.
Additionally, close coordination and support between Narconon Arrowhead students and staff and the surrounding communities ensure that they all work together towards the goal of healthy, productive, contributing community residents.
Narconon Arrowhead Holiday Activities 2013
This year, Narconon Arrowhead staff and students have created a drug-free float that was displayed in the McAlester Christmas Parade at 7:00 pm on December 5th. The float will also put in appearances at the Eufaula and Checotah holiday parades on December 7th. The beautiful Narconon Arrowhead Christmas tree will go up on December 6th, and the annual decking the halls party will occur on December 8th, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. To round out the holiday festivities there will be a holiday talent show on December 15th for staff and student performers alike.
The holiday season is a time of love, caring and generosity, and should be enjoyed by everyone. Narconon Arrowhead’s seasonal activities help facility staff and program students enjoy sober activities that foster the holiday spirit.
