The Oklahoma communities of Eufaula and Checotah hosted their annual Christmas parades in December, and Narconon Arrowhead participated with its parade float entry. The Oklahoma-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation and education center chose Happy Sober Holidays in Oklahoma for the theme of its 2014 parade float entry.
Community Christmas Parades
Participating in the local community holiday celebrations is a special way for Narconon Arrowhead to show its support and appreciation for the nearby communities that support the rehab center throughout the year. It is also an important way to help the students on the rehab program during the holidays to celebrate and to help others in the true spirit of the holiday season.
Located only 9 miles for Narconon Arrowhead is the small, lakeside community of Eufaula, Oklahoma. Home to 3,000 or so residents, it hosted its old-fashioned holiday parade early in the afternoon on the 6th of December. As the parade made its way down Main Street, Narconon Arrowhead shared its Happy Sober Holidays in Oklahoma drug-free message with all those lining the parade route.
Just another 24 miles past Eufaula is the community of Checotah, Oklahoma. It too has a population of 3,000 or so residents, and is a closely-knit community which celebrates the holiday season with its annual Checotah Christmas Parade. The 2014 parade was held late afternoon on the 6th of December, and hosted an array of parade floats, civic groups, local churches and youth groups. Narconon Arrowhead took part in that parade as well, and its Happy Sober Holidays in Oklahoma-themed parade float entry took home 3rd place in the 2014 parade float judging.
The staff of Narconon Arrowhead, along with their families, participated in the post-parade festivities at Checotah’s Pocket Park, and handed-out information on substance abuse; and how to help someone struggling with addiction especially during the holiday season.
Now that the holiday season has come to a close, Narconon Arrowhead continues sharing its drug-free message with these local communities, the residents of Oklahoma and all others by releasing 10 tips for making 2015 a year of sobriety.
10 Tips for Sobriety in 2015

Take Care of Your Health
Good health is also one of your most valuable possessions. A lifestyle which includes good nutrition, exercise, and restful sleep with do much for your physical and mental well-being, and sobriety.
Recognize Your Spirituality
The best qualities of humanity are spiritual. The belief in the goodness of self and others, and the belief in a Higher Power give special meaning to life, and are a source of inner strength upon which you can draw.
Take Responsibility for Your Sobriety
Each person creates his or her own life, and is ultimately responsible for the choices made. Choose sobriety, and decide to do whatever you personally need to do to get and remain sober.
Choose Sober Friends
Choose and make friends with others who want to live a sober life.
Choose Sober Activities
Choose activities to enjoy which do not involve drugs or alcohol. Don’t agree with the falsehood that you have to get high to have fun.
Set Some Goals
2015 is a bright, new year. Set some goals you would like to accomplish, and write them down. Begin working towards achieving them, one at a time.
Help Others Get Sober
Become a sponsor. Mentor someone just learning to live a sober life. Be a Buddy, and help another find their way in life.
Give of Yourself
There are many who need help. Find an area in our society which needs to be improved, and which interests you. Give of yourself to others.
Support Drug Prevention Efforts
Children and youth need to know the dangers and risks of drugs and alcohol. Your experience is valuable. Talk to them, and help them avoid substance abuse and addiction.
Find Purpose in Your Life
There is purpose in living, and making life better for oneself and others. Find yours. It will give meaning and stability to your life and your sobriety.
As philosopher and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “There is no person alive who cannot make a new beginning.”
