Gospel is a word derived from Greek, meaning good news. It is the story of Christ’s life and his teachings, especially as it is recorded in the first four books of the New Testament (collection of the books of the Bible, produced by the early Christian Church), the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The Apostles, the early followers of Jesus Christ, carried his Christian message out into the world, recording their teachings in these books.
Narconon Arrowhead’s Bible Study Teacher
Anthony works at Narconon Arrowhead, and has since January of 2012. He studied Theology at Bethel Baptist College in Jacksonville, Arkansas, and shares the gospel with others.
His alma mater, Bethel Baptist College, establishes an environment of personal, spiritual and academic growth for those individuals preparing for Christian ministries. When you visit the college website, you find the school has as one of its purposes to “cultivate the total life” of its students, enriching them spiritually, academically, socially and physically with a look to them becoming mature and well-balanced Christians.
Furthermore, the college seeks to enable its students to “express the message of God by word and life”. Anthony has brought the fruits and benefits of his education and spiritual beliefs to Narconon Arrowhead to share with others.
Bible Study with Narconon Patients
In an interview, Anthony relates that as a Christian and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, he was called to start a Bible Study Group. This he does on his own time when not working at his assigned job at the rehab center. It is, he says, “our own time when we come together”. He meets with other staff and students who are currently on the Narconon rehab program to learn about the Bible and how each person can apply it to his or her every-day life.
Anthony notes his Bible Study Group just studied the Book of John. He explains that the Book of John follows the life of Jesus Christ, “how he lived and the morals and ethics he portrayed.”
He continues, saying he noticed how closely it matched with much of what the Narconon Program teaches and “how very similar the two are.”
He added that when we just take those things learned, applying them to our lives and others, “it really lifts us up” and it “helps us out.” He notes that doing so “even helps the ones around us”, too.
The Book of John
A simple yet beautiful synopsis of the Book of John describes it as a book of love and joy, explaining the fellowship we share with others, and as Christians believe, the fellowship with Jesus Christ. John relates in his writings how to achieve happiness, wherein one can take his written words and apply them to life on a daily basis, resulting in fellowship, true love, commitment and joy.
The Way to Happiness
When a person makes their way through the entire Narconon Program, having started with Drug-Free Withdrawal, getting safely off the drugs to which they are addicted and ready to begin walking their road to recovery and sobriety, they will finish-up the program with a very important and potentially life-changing Life Skills Course, The Way to Happiness.
The study of The Way to Happiness: A Common Sense Guide to Better Living, teaches the principles of good conduct and behavior (precepts), setting the person’s feet firmly on the road to living a drug-free, happy and moral life.
It is in The Way to Happiness that the spiritual nature of man in all its goodness is addressed, just as it is in the Book of John. Those best qualities of the human spirit and human nature are cultivated and assigned their proper value, with goodness and the ability to help one’s fellow man perhaps a person’s most valuable possession of all.
