Overcoming Ups and Downs After Rehab

I just wanted to take a moment to share a major success I had last night!

The Ups and Downs in Life course part of the Narconon program provides to tools to determine the positive and difficult people in your life and it was very helpful to me because I have difficult people in my family (I’m sure I am not the only one).

My one uncle I can now comfortably handle. I never really see him and when I do, “good roads good weather” is an easy guideline to follow.

My grandma, on the other hand, is always around and we have had a difficult relationship in the past. Over the years, there have been many disagreements and, because she reminds me of my ex, I would get triggered very easily.

Last night she came at me verbally and I CALMLY and FIRMLY took responsibility for the conversation and calmly responded “This has nothing to do with me so please don’t yell at me, I’m not the issue right now” and she would check herself for a few seconds.

Normally I would have gotten triggered right away but I kept a calm, grounded presence and whenever my point got across and it made sense but didn’t follow her insane thoughts, it would result in a “Whatever” which I kind of internally chuckled at because I used logic mainly to steer the conversation.

“... Being grounded and standing my ground for what I believe in and staying true to myself, was a huge win!”

I’d say that, considering all the accusations, blame and fault thrown at me (for things I didn’t do because she was choosing the wrong target), being grounded and standing my ground for what I believe in and staying true to myself, was a huge win!
