friends blamedWith 80,000 drug overdose deaths every year and a person passing away from prescriptions every 20 minutes, addiction is on the minds of millions. How can someone who was seemingly happy and doing well in life suddenly become a person that no one recognizes, trusts or believes in? The other question is how someone could go from being drug free to a full blown addict in just a short time?

It has been a topic of communication and debate for many years as well as looking at who is to blame for addiction. Some say it’s the drug pusher while others feel it is fully a problem caused by the addict. Or is it both? Or, is neither party responsible? What about friends or other associates of the drug user? Surely someone is to blame with the 23 million people on illegal drugs, and another 16 million mis-using prescriptions.

Narconon Looks At The Conrad Murray Story

Nearly everyone is familiar with Dr. Conrad Murray; a self-proclaimed “friend” of Michael Jackson who gave him a lethal amount of drugs that lead to his early death. In this case Murray was a doctor with an ethical responsibility to uphold the safety of his patients.  Unfortunately in this instance (and possibly others) he didn’t, and his patient died because of it.

And, with regards to addiction this is not an isolated incident. There are stories like this all over the U.S. that involve not only doctors but friends and even family members of drug users who somehow contributed to or did not stop a situation that led to a user’s demise.

michael jacksonTake this scenario:

You have to friends using drugs together and one overdoses and passes away. Let’s say that the friend that did not overdose was using drugs first and introduced the other to them. Is it their fault? Many would say: yes.

Another obvious target to fault for substance abuse is the drug dealer. And most dealers would likely argue that they wouldn’t be in business if people didn’t want their product; that if they weren’t selling drugs to people that someone else would; even though their product is killing people and ruining lives. They push drugs on others to increase their own profits or free their own abuse problem.

It is easy to see why this argument could be compelling to some people even though it is completely senseless. The truth is that the drug dealer that supplies the drugs to feed the demand helps more to get addicted and solicits the damage done to those taking the substances.

The Drug Abuser

A drug abuser is someone who uses a drug or chemical for reasons other than its intended purpose. Some drugs or chemicals have a specific medical or scientific purpose that can benefit humanity if used and stored properly as well as carefully like antibiotics or heart medication. With that said all drugs and chemicals have side effects which can be damaging and life threatening to users.

In all fairness, the abuser should be blamed partially for his role in using and abusing drugs but others should also be held responsible. That is, anyone who enables the use. This could be the doctor that writes the prescription knowing that it isn’t necessarily need, the friend who lets the addict stay with him or uses with him or her or even the family that allows the drug user to live in the home, not pay bills and continue to abuse drugs.

To solve the problem it is not only up to the user but all those surrounding him or her – family, friends, doctors, counselors and enforcement to get them professional help. As for the drug dealer, he will likely do himself in based solely on his actions of destroying others.
