Snapchat Drugs

Teens drinking

Snapchat is a major social platform for people under the age of 40 and Snapchat media outlets mostly target youth and millennials. Watching news clips on Snapchat for the past two days I have seen Tailgate Heroes, which was a social clip about college kids drinking alcohol and going to tailgate parties, and have also seen marijuana updates speaking about the benefits of marijuana in society and how it reduces crime rate.

The Snapchat corporation even went as far as making a filter in 2016 celebrating Bob Marley on 4/20, also known as “weed day.”

“The lens we launched today was created in partnership with the Bob Marley Estate, and gives people a new way to share their appreciation for Bob Marley and his music. Millions of Snapchatters have enjoyed Bob Marley’s music, and we respect his life and achievements.”

One thing is clear, these social clips on Snapchat are not only viewed by college-aged people; the social ads are also viewed by children and teenagers. Large corporations are showing younger generations that drinking and parties, and marijuana use, are the norm.

Drug and alcohol advertisements are being shared by friends and family to both the young and the old. There is no doubt in my mind that one of the reasons we have such a drug epidemic in America is because large corporations are desensitizing younger generations trying to make drugs and alcohol a norm of society. If you find yourself trapped in a cycle of addiction please find help. Drug and alcohol abuse can stop with our generation.
