From Six Feet Under to Loving Father and Husband

Let me just start by saying that a year ago, I did not think I could live this happy and be this happy. I was living at my cousin’s house. I lost my wife, I lost seeing my son every day, and all in all, I lost the will to live. I was six feet under, this time last year, and all I could do was keep getting high because I didn’t think anyone was there for me. I didn’t want to keep on living.

At one point, I even tried killing myself. I don’t understand why I did that—all I can say is that we all have the power to quit anything, especially drugs. After I failed to kill myself, I knew it was time to get help. I picked up the phone, and I dialed my uncle Chris’s phone number, and I thank God every day that he picked up the phone because if he didn’t, I don’t know where I was going to get help, and I don’t know where I would be right now. Thank you so much, Uncle Chris, I love you so much.

“I picked up the phone, and I dialed my uncle Chris’s phone number, and I thank God every day that he picked up the phone because if he didn’t… I don’t know where I would be right now.”

My Uncle Chris then came and picked me up. A couple days later he took me to Narconon. I didn’t know what to expect walking through those doors, but all I knew is that I wanted to get help and I wanted to live a happy life without drugs.

You see, I was an addict for 16 years. I tried to stop several times, but apparently, I really didn’t want to quit because all I did was get back on that s*%@ a week or two after I was clean. You have to want to stop, and you, yourself, have to do the work. I didn’t think it was going to be easy and I knew it would take hard work and dedication. The fact is, I was a methamphetamine addict for 16 years, and I was tired of that life. I, myself, wanted to get clean for myself, my son, and for my family.

I know I hurt a lot of people while I was high. I apologized to every one of them, and in doing so, a lot of came off my chest. The big key of staying sober after you get out of rehab or Narconon is to do what the book says to do, and that is to get new friends and not to “hang out” with anti-social people. Focus on day-to-day living and not worry about the future, because you don’t know what the future holds.

Narconon is the best rehab I’ve ever been to, and it’s the only rehab that I will ever recommend to anybody because what they do here is amazing.

First, they clean you out of all the drugs and toxins, and then they put you into a course room, and they want to know all sorts of things. At first, it was frustrating to be in the course room, and not knowing what I was supposed to be doing. But, we’re all in there for different reasons, and we’re all in there to find ourselves again, and I found myself again.

You know, while doing objectives I learned quite a bit about myself. I learned that I can function without drugs. I learned that I can communicate with another human being the correct way, you know, just communicating and understanding someone else’s point of view, someone else’s state of mind. The training drills you do in the objectives are what I use every day of my life now. I use it with my wife, I use it with my son, I use it with my parents—I use it with everyone. Just looking at someone after they talk to you and communicating back with them and when you say, “I understand” or “I got you,” you know? Just letting them know that you understand something is more than half the battle, and I never realized that because I was high for 16 years. I have to thank David, Carol, Gerard, Elaine, Dave, and Fio. The staff down at Narconon are some of the best people in the world. They actually care about you. They want to see you go out and succeed after you leave their program. They actually call and check on you after you leave the program which is amazing.

Let me get back to my story.

“I have a full-time job at a graphic and t-shirt business now. I have my own vehicle. I got my wife back, and my son and we live happily together.”

I have a full-time job at a graphic and t-shirt business now. I have my own vehicle. I got my wife back, and my son and we live happily together. I get to take my son to school every day sober. I get to take my son to soccer practice, and I get to help coach my son in soccer. And most of all, as I said, I have my girl back—my son’s mom—whom I love most in this world besides my son.

Just a little advice to the students that are going through the program right now is to pay attention while you’re on the Objectives and while you’re doing the book work because you will have some realizations down there that are real and that you will feel inside you. Whatever happens to you physically, emotionally, mentally, make sure you write it down and make sure you tell a staff member at Narconon whatever you’re feeling, whatever is going through your head because all of that is happening is real, and they need to know about it. If it’s something bad that’s going through your head, they will sit down, and they will talk you through it, and they will get you to the point where you need to be.

I had lost my family, lost my SUV, lost my house—let me just put it this way—I lost everything that I ever wanted in life, and I never thought that I was going to get it back. I was ready to give up, and after I tried and failed my Uncle Chris and the people at Narconon saved my life and they put that will and want back in my life. I couldn’t be happier every day with the choice I made to pick up that phone and get help.

So my advice to everyone and to any student that goes to Narconon is to take it seriously. Listen to the staff at Narconon. Take their advice, and run with it, because I did and I’m the happiest person in the world. I never thought I could live each day of my life without drugs and be this happy.

“All of you sitting here, whatever you want in life right now, whatever you lost, whatever you think you can’t get back, you CAN get it back, and the staff at Narconon can help you get it back and will try their hardest to help you get it back.”

All of you sitting here, whatever you want in life right now, whatever you lost, whatever you think you can’t get back, you CAN get it back, and the staff at Narconon can help you get it back and will try their hardest to help you get it back.

I love all you guys down there. Thanks again for everything that you helped me with. I will never stop trying to get these drugs off the street and to get people real help, and that’s what you guys are—you guys are REAL.

Love,
Luke W.
