The Meth In The Mirror

Meth paraphernalia

Even after only a few short weeks of using Crystal Meth, a person can become something totally different from who they really are. They look and act completely unlike themselves, even when standing right in front of you.

Meth is a stimulant that can produce abnormal levels of energy that interfere with normal sleep patterns. Our bodies need regular, restful sleep.

When someone uses Crystal Meth on top of being sleep deprived, it contributes to a number of “physical responses” and “personality changes” such as

  • irritability
  • paranoia
  • hallucinations
  • depressed feelings
  • anxiousness
  • increased heart rate
  • blood pressure and body temperature that can lead to convulsions and death.

Crystal Meth creates a false sense of well-being that can cause one to overlook the body’s indications that things are not right. Meth users push their bodies to the limit—many times farther than it is designed to or capable of going. This results in a person “crashing.” At this point, the body can take no more and shuts down. It is physically unable to cope with the demands put on it requires long periods of sleep for the person. This can go on for up to three days and compounds the existing conditions of malnourishment, dehydration, low vitamin and nutrient levels, and emotional fatigue and confusion that already exist from the drug use. The body is actively trying to survive and the addict is continually trying to kill it as a means of survival. A vicious cycle. But hope should not be lost. The body is a resilient machine and it will survive if the addict can begin to take the toxic pressure off of it.

Given proper help, the addict can recognize himself again.

The addict can be himself again.

The addict can LIVE again!
