With Veterans Day right around the corner, it’s important to consider the unique challenges faced by our nation’s former service members, to explore statistics on substance abuse among veterans, and to determine how our communities can better help former veterans to lead healthy, safe, meaningful lives. As the data reveals, former service members struggle from substance abuse at a rate much higher than many might think, creating a new level of urgency for their families and communities to help them.
