Loneliness and Sadness – How Hard Times can Lead to Addiction
When looking at what causes addiction, we almost always must look into the past. This is because most people use drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism for a problem they could not solve back then, a problem that they cannot solve now either.
Children Are Watching
As a child, my Mother and I didn’t have a normal relationship—she was trapped by drugs and alcohol. At the age of 3, my brother and I would be playing in the yard, and my mother would drive up and tell us if we got money from grandma, that she would drive us around the block.
The Other Side of the Mirror
As a child who grew up with parents who are addicts, I constantly found myself wanting to give up all hope that they would ever change. It was a constant battle between my head and my heart, deciding whether or not they deserved yet another chance.
