There are many problems in today’s culture. Drug abuse is increasing in our community and all across our beautiful state. Every week we hear stories of drug-related crimes and tragedies. Every day more people become addicted to illegal drugs, alcohol or prescription medications. While it is true that there are well-intentioned groups and individuals working tirelessly to end the drug problem, it just keeps growing. New drugs are constantly being created and an increasing number of legal drugs are being used in illegal ways. There are many people who are addicted or know of a loved one or friend who is, but they don’t know where to turn for help. With so many drug rehab facilities to choose from, it can be difficult to know which one is the best for you. Addiction Help Near Catoosa

Catoosa residents can easily access our CARF-accredited facility via OK-351, US-69 S, and OK-72 S. In order to choose the right rehabilitation facility, it is important to know how each one operates and what its fundamental principles are. Narconon is different than other options out there, and these differences lead to a high success rate. As with other rehabilitation programs, Narconon begins the recovery process with a full withdrawal. What is unique about the Narconon program, however, is that it utilizes specially designed methods that direct a person’s attention outward, rather than inward toward the pain and discomfort of the withdrawal process. These methods don’t completely eliminate the discomfort, but they make the person better able to handle it and move through it. Narconon also helps a person to repair the physical damage drug use inevitably causes in the body by using specific, carefully supervised nutritional supplements.

The next step is the Narconon New Life Detoxification program. This is another aspect of the program that is unique to Narconon. It involves reaching deep into the fatty tissues to remove the deposits of drugs that lodge there over time. These deposits, if left in the body, cause flashbacks, mental fogginess, and recurrences of the drugs’ effects. The New Life Detoxification uses a moderate-heat sauna, mild exercise and a regimen of nutritional supplements to continue the body’s healing process.

Narconon Addresses More Than Just the Physical Causes of Addiction

After the person has dealt with the physical aspects of drug abuse, they tackle the mental and emotional aspects. Though opinions vary on exactly how important these factors are to a full, lasting rehabilitation, we have found that addressing these matters is crucial. At Narconon, we know that a full rehabilitation can only be achieved when a person is completely free from all chemical dependence. This includes dependence upon medications that are commonly used as replacements for illegal drugs. These new medical drugs are simply a crutch. If the person depends on them for sobriety, are they really drug free?

Instead of using drugs to deal with addiction or with emotional and mental issues, Narconon’s trained staff assist people to learn and then apply practical, workable “life tools” that effectively deal with depression, guilt, and the underlying causes of addiction. The person graduates from the program with tools they can use for the rest of their life. At that point, with both the physical and mental aspects of abuse addressed, the person is fully recovered and ready to build a drug-free life.

Drug Abuse is Affecting Our Local Community

Addiction and drug-related crimes are rampant in Oklahoma and in Catoosa as well. Just a few years ago our town was rocked by the arrests of seven citizens, two of whom were government officials. One of those officials was the assistant police chief. Another police officer who had previously been suspended became an informant and provided information that led authorities to arrest the assistant police chief on drug-related charges. It was suspected that he was addicted to hydrocodone, a highly addictive pain killer that is commonly abused. Needless to say, it is shocking and upsetting when we find that one of the people who are supposed to protect our community from drug dealers and addicts has become part of the problem. It just goes to show that anyone at any level of society can fall victim to drug abuse through poor choices. It also throws into focus the increasing problem that prescription drug abuse is becoming in our state. In fact, the Pontotoc County Sheriff  says that prescription drug abuse is the second biggest drug problem in our county.

The largest drug problem in our county is the abuse of methamphetamine. Made by combining cough medicine with such poisons as battery acid or drain cleaner, meth has a devastating effect upon the body. It rots a person’s teeth, decreases appetite, causes mental problems, and has many other harmful effects. In fact, meth abuse causes such damage to the body that a meth addict is almost unrecognizable after only a short period of use. In addition to destroying the bodies and lives of addicts, meth abuse is behind much of the crime in our community. If drugs could be eliminated, the society would become much safer.
